We are very excited to partner with Every Mother Counts this holiday season. EMC was founded by Christy Turlington Burns in 2010, to make pregnancy and childbirth safe, respectful and equitable for every mother, every where.
I began supporting EMC in 2011 when my first daughter was born. Through my friendship with Christy, I realized that the maternal death rate in the US is shockingly the highest in the developed world. Every two minutes, a woman dies from pregnancy and childbirth complications — more than 800 preventable deaths each day, internationally.
The good news is almost all global maternal deaths can be prevented by ensuring women have timely access to quality, respectful and equitable maternity care.
Every Mother Counts currently works in more than 9 countries around the world, including the US and invests in organizations already working in local, underserved and marginalized communities. They help deliver high-impact, low-cost solutions to improve maternal health outcomes.
